The Chris Moyles show - BBC Radio 1

The Chris Moyles breakfast show is the most popular radio show that is aired on BBC Radio 1 and also one of the most popular radio shows that is aired in the United Kingdom. It is broadcasted from 6:30-10:00 AM and consists of: main Presenter Chris Moyles, Sara Cox, David Vitty, (comedy Dave) Dominic and the producer Aled Jones.

The target audience for the Chris Moyles show are 15-24 year olds, with a secondary audience up to the age of 32, they create all of their jingles, soundebeds, playlists etc with them in mind.

The Presenters on the Chris Moyles show (this also concerns all radio shows on Radio 1) all have regional accents outside of London to ensure that Radio 1 is not labelled or come across as a London radio show (for example Chris Moyles is from Leeds therefore has a Yorkshire accent).

They also tour their radio show across the country and broadcast from many different studios around the UK, this is to connect more with their audience and determine what their target audience wants to hear, this is hugely beneficial to the show and the audience as the listeners can maybe get the chance to meet to presenters and Radio 1 team.

The playlist is created by the Radio 1 producers and made up of mainly music that is in the current top 40 charts and songs from very mainstream bands as they attract more listeners than any other show, whereas other radio shows have a much larger balance between mainstream and new upcoming artists, although Chris Moyles does play new music from popular artists as the show is so popular and if you're a new artist and Chris Moyles plays your song it is a massive step up the music industry ladder, leading to selling alot of records due to the reputation of Chris Moyles. Music pluggers from the record compaines/labels will propose songs to Radio 1 and each employee also has the opportunity to pitch a song that they would like to be played on the radio.

Pitch/projection/pace/pause

Chris Moyles usually stands up for the duration of his show and he varies how close he has the microphone to his mouth, when you stand or sit up you have more air in your lungs therefore your pitch would be better than sitting down as you will not sound as slouched. As Chris Moyles is the main presenter of the show it is important for his pitch to be very clear therefore they do not rely on EQ as his pitch could possibly become very muffled, this also applies to all the presenters on the Chris Moyles show. This is very beneficial for the listeners as the presenters will all sound very clear.
Chris often uses upward inflections when interviewing guests as to sound more enthusiastic and make the listener feel more intrigued as much more vibrant when interviewing guests.
All of the presenters on the Chris Moyles show use a personal approach to their projection which also mirrors the feeling of the radio show as you can tell all the presenters get on and are very good friends as they are very comfortable interacting with eachother and have a very relaxed and professional approach which is a very important aspect of a radio show as it is very easy listening and you can relate to the presenters relationship. You get the feeling all presenters are sat very close to the microphone as they all sound very clear, this is a very important part of broadcasting as if you are sat too far away from the microphone you will not be heard.
Chris Moyles' show has four presenters in all, which is quite a few as with so many presenters it has the potential to become very cluttered but as they have such  good chemistry it works and also sets of a friendly aroma which makes it easy listening which is what you want when listening to the radio in the morning.
Chris uses a fast pace as when he speaks he does speak faster than average but not so fast you cannot understand what he is saying, i think this is just in his nature as he is a very opinionated man. The other three presenters have a much more average pace i assume they do this as to no overshadow Chris as he is the main presenter.
There are very little pauses in the show, probably due to the amount of presenters that are used and Chris' talkative personality. The only time there are really any pauses is when they are interviewing a guest and are wating for the guests response ot maybe just before a song.

Mode of address

The show mainly consists of the presenters having chat between themselves therefore it is indirect as they are not involiving the audience within the chat, for exmple when talking about anecdotes between eachother this is indirect. This is also very formal as they are very much having a conversation, whereras the news or weather will be indirect as they are not in direct conversation.
When Chris is asking the audience to text or phone in this is direct as he is directly involving the audience, also when reading out texts that have been sent in from listeners he is reading them to the audience as they often ask for shoutouts. Also when he says 'if you're listening now' or 'if you're watching' this is also direct to the listeners.
